Linux Patch Shows Core 3A6000 Series Processors Will Support Multi-Threading

Longxin Zhongke previously revealed that Longxin 3A6000 has been streamed back, but only after preliminary testing, there is still the process of performance mapping, optimization and productization, and it will take six months to a year to complete the productization plan.

Since last month, Longxin engineers have been adapting Linux to run stably on its upcoming 3A6000 series processors.

Yesterday, Longxin released a new Linux patch indicating that the Longxin 3A6000 processors will support Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) technology. Similar to common Intel, AMD and POWER processors, SMT doubles the number of logical cores, in the form of 4 cores and 8 threads.

Note: Simultaneous multithreading (SMT), also known as simultaneous multithreading, or “hyperthreading” in Intel marketing terms, is a technology that improves the overall efficiency of superscalar CPUs with hardware multithreading. It also allows multiple independent threads of execution to make better use of the resources provided by modern processor architectures.

From the known information so far, Longxin 3A6000 has a 2.5GHz main frequency, quad-core, dual DDR4-3200 memory channel design, single-threaded fixed-point base score over 40, floating-point score over 50, multi-threaded fixed-point score over 140, and floating-point score over 130 in SPEC CPU2006.

Longxin Zhongke believes that the performance of 3A6000 is comparable to that of AMD’s Zen 2 at 7nm, which is equivalent to Intel’s 10th generation Core.

In addition, the official test found that there is a certain gap between the Longxin GCC compiler and the X86 GCC compiler, and the dynamic instruction count of many applications is obviously higher than X86, so it is estimated that the compilation optimization will further improve the score.

Longxin emphasizes: Longxin will continue to increase the main frequency, but will not follow the current Intel’s technical route of sacrificing efficiency for frequency, and will strive to continue to reduce cost and power consumption at the 3GHz level.

It is worth mentioning that the next generation of Longxin 3A6000 will be 3B6000, with four major and four minor eight-core design and built-in self-developed GPU, and the large core will strive to improve performance by more than 20% through structural optimization, but the official thinks it is quite difficult.

In the second half of the year, the technical preparation for the more advanced process will be carried out (because Longxin insists on self-developed IP, it needs to customize the memory interface, PCIE interface and other PHYs, which will take about one year).
