Creator and maintainer Jerry Bezencon today officially announced the Linux Lite 6.4 distribution update, which introduces many new features/functionality, upgrades related components, and optimizes performance.
Linux Lite 6.4 is based on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) and uses the Linux Kernel 5.15 LTS kernel. The biggest highlight is the introduction of Zstd (Zstandard) compression for native applications, which improves the speed of understanding compression.
Another interesting change in the Linux Lite 6.4 release is the deployment of systems-analyze in the Lite System Report application, thus adding additional system reports for those who want to diagnose performance and other general system issues during the boot process.
Linux Lite 6.4 still uses the older Xfce 4.16 desktop environment family, providing an updated Thunar file manager that displays WebP image thumbnails properly. The system uses the latest Papirus icon theme by default, and new desktop wallpapers from various contributors have been added.
