Jerry Bezencon, the lead developer and maintainer of Linux Lite, recently announced the final release of the Ubuntu-based Linux Lite 6.2 distribution, which is aimed at Windows users who want to switch to Linux.
Linux Lite 6.2 features the lightweight Xfce 4.16 desktop environment, based on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish), which was released 5 months ago with Linux Lite 6.0.
Highlights of the new release include an improved Lite Upgrade internal build utility with new end-user dialogs and integration with the latest LibreOffice 7.3 Office Suite release, as well as an updated Lite Tweaks internal build utility with improved kernel removal, log removal, and hostname settings.
The Lite Software internal build utility has also been updated in this release to provide the Shotcut video editor as a replacement for Openshot, and to remove the Microsoft Teams application as it is no longer supported by Linux. the same is true for the Lite Sources internal build utility, with codename bugs The same is true for the Lite Sources internal build tool, with fixes for codename errors.
In addition, this release updates the Lite Patch internal build tool to handle potential update errors by adding new images, improves the Lite Hardware Database to support more devices, updates the default Papirus icon set, and adds new wallpapers.
Finally, the Task Manager (System Monitoring Center) application received updated icons and right-click actions were fixed so that it works everywhere, apt-key deprecation warnings were fixed, and various core applications and components were updated.
Linux Lite 6.2 also brings fixes for applications that handle directories, as Catfish would open in place of Thunar in some cases. The distribution is driven by the Linux 5.15 LTS kernel family, which is long supported by Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS.
