Li L8 Air test drive has arrived: positioning luxury mid-size SUV, start delivery in April

Li L8 is positioned as a luxury mid-to-large SUV. It previously launched two models, L8 Pro and L8 Max, and released a lower-end entry-level version in early February – L8 Air, 339,800 CNY rise.

Li Automobile said that the first batch of Li L8 Air test drive vehicles have arrived at the store, and this time the vehicle arrival information has been announced as usual. According to reports, the first batch will cover 67 cities and 166 stores, and the first batch of production vehicles will be delivered in April.

"1. CDC continuous variable damping shock absorber blessing, comfortable still

The combination form of the suspension system of the Li L8 is a front double wishbone and a rear five-link. When cornering, the front and rear suspensions can ensure that the wheels are always at an angle nearly vertical to the ground, thereby obtaining a larger ground contact area, increasing tire grip and vehicle stability.

The suspension is composed of elastic elements, shock absorbers, guide mechanisms and other parts, among which the elastic elements and shock absorbers jointly undertake the task of buffering and vibration reduction. To improve driving comfort, it is necessary to properly match the stiffness of the elastic element and the damping of the shock absorber.

The elastic element used in the Li L8 Air is a coil spring, while the Pro and Max models use air springs. For different elastic components, the Li car product team has carried out exclusive adaptation and adjustment to ensure that all models have the best driving experience.

The calibration of the coil spring stiffness of Li L8 Air fully considers the use scenarios of home users, with the main goal being a stable and comfortable body. With the optimized CDC continuously variable damping shock absorber, in most usage scenarios, Li L8 Air’s vibration isolation performance Comparable to the Pro and Max models.

The shock absorber on the Li L8 Air is a CDC continuously variable damping shock absorber, which is consistent with the Li L8 Pro and Max. Looking at the luxury medium and large SUV market, CDC shock absorbers generally only appear on high-end models such as BMW X5 L and Mercedes-Benz GLE. Li L8 Air is the only SUV in the price range of 300,000 to 350,000 CNY that comes standard with CDC shock absorbers.

The CDC shock absorber can change the oil resistance of the shock absorber through the current control solenoid valve, thereby changing the damping size. Li L8 Air's CDC damper control algorithm will combine the signals of 26 sensors such as wheel-end acceleration sensor, steering wheel angle, throttle status, and ABS status to adjust the damping of the damper in milliseconds to ensure consistent comfort.

The self-developed CDC damper control algorithm solves many problems in actual driving. For example, the pitch control algorithm alleviates the motion sickness problem caused by the vehicle's acceleration and braking head-up; the roll control algorithm weakens the sideways shaking; the heave control algorithm allows the LiL8 Air to maintain a stable posture when passing through undulating roads. The CDC shock absorber also has OTA potential, which is convenient for continuously iterating more settings according to family travel needs.

Due to the lack of air springs and supporting body height sensors, the Li L8 Air cannot realize functions such as automatic adjustment of body height with speed, convenient getting on and off the car, and convenient loading of the trunk. After the off-road escape mode is turned on, the chassis of the Pro and Max models can be raised by 40mm, which is better for passability.

Like the Pro and Max models, the Li L8 Air also supports three-speed suspension comfort adjustment. "Comfort", "standard" and "sport" are all relative concepts. Compared with the standard mode, after switching to the comfort mode, the shock absorber damping is weaker, and the body movement is more relaxed; after switching to the sport mode, the shock absorber damping is stronger, and the body movement is more stable and calm. No matter which mode is used, the suspension always maintains good control of the body and effective isolation of vibrations.

2. The front and rear dual-motor intelligent four-wheel drive system assists, still strong

The powertrain of the Li L8 Air is exactly the same as that of the Li L8 Pro and Max.

The front five-in-one and rear three-in-one drive motors form a front and rear dual-motor intelligent four-wheel drive system, with a peak power of 330 kW, a peak torque of 620 Nm, and an acceleration of 5.5 seconds from 100 km to 100 km. When driving in the city, most Li car owners use pure electric mode. The 1.5T four-cylinder range extender self-developed by Li Auto adopts a deep Miller cycle with a thermal efficiency of 40.5%. For the timing system, flywheel, crankshaft, oil pump and other components, the product team has carried out atomic-level silent optimization. The difference in the noise inside the car between the extended range mode and the pure electric mode is ≤ 1 decibel. Li L8 Air not only has the excellent driving feeling and quietness of electric drive, but also has the advantage of low cost of use.
