LG launches Ultra PC 17/16 notebooks starting at $1,599 / $999

LG’s premium ultra-light Gram series has been well received in the notebook market, and today the company is launching two new models, the Ultra PC 17 and Ultra PC 16, also with a ‘portable and large screen’ theme. Both models are heavier than the Gram series but are more affordable, starting at US$1,599 and US$999 respectively.

Both laptop models are equipped with Mirametrix’s Glance, a software pre-installed on a growing number of high-end laptops. The program uses the device’s webcam to track the user’s location. It can automatically lock the screen when you are away. It will also blur the screen if it senses someone peering over your shoulder. And, with LG, if you have an external monitor connected, it can automatically move your cursor and windows in use to whatever screen you’re viewing.

Both of these notebooks are a little heavier than the previous Gram range, with the 17-inch Ultra PC 17 weighing 4.37 pounds and the 16-inch weighing 3.63 pounds. Both the Gram 17 and Gram 16 models weigh less than 3 pounds.

The Ultra PC 17 also supports a mobile graphics option (NVIDIA’s RTX 3050), which should allow it to be used for more intensive graphics tasks than the 17-inch Gram can accommodate. It’s also worth noting that you have a number of processor types to choose from. The 17-inch has a 12th-generation Core i7 chip, while the 16-inch has a Ryzen 5825U (although there is no mobile GPU option on this model).
