Lexus takes its first step into the growing EV market by announcing the all-new Leux RZ450e. It is the first vehicle in the series under the Lexus Electrified Vision – the blueprint to have a full line of electric Lexuses and then go completely electric by 2035. The company is working hard to distinguish itself despite the fact that Lexus is predicated on the same framework as Toyota or Subaru .
Lexus RZ450e Exterior Outlook
As there is no need for cooling, the Lexus RZ450e’s grille is gone, and the lights are different from those of the Toyota or Subaru. The front end is assertive. The RZ 450e is releasing in a dual-tone colour scheme with a black bonnet and middle section of the front bumper instead of the one-color launch model.
The mirrors, pillars, and Lexus’ decision to substitute the rear side glass with black panels in order to visually link the roof to the rest of the body are all examples of this car’s black theme. Unlike Toyota or Subaru, Lexus has a unique spoiler at the back. It also have full-width LED lights that extend to the sides. The Lexus name in chrome sits proudly underneath the middle brake light.
Lexus RZ450e: Interior Design and Specifications
The yoke steering is the most contentious part of the interior. Lexus will allow us to choose between a standard steering wheel and a steering wheel with a touchpad.
Instrument placement and screen size are the main differences between RZ and its siblings. Its location is very close to the drive. In contrast, Toyota’s instrument placement is positioned much farther back. Large cup holders sit next to a rotating drive selector in the middle console. The middle console houses a 14-inch central screen. You’ll find the start button a little above the left corner of the main screen.
Seats appear sporty. It has high sides to support riders well during a spirited drive, as one would expect from a Lexus. As expected from Lexus, the inside is classy. The center console sits almost at the driver’s elbow height, creating a cocoon-like feeling for the driver. The yoke steering provides an impression of driving a Formula E car.
The car’s glass roof is split into two sections adding to the sense of openness. Party trick: activated by a button, the privacy glass makes it impossible for birds or bugs to see you driving. We’re pretty sure it’ll help reflect heat as well.
Two USB-C ports and a wireless phone charger sit beneath the main screen. Passengers in the back have access to two additional charging ports.
Lexus RZ450e: Engine Capability
Direct4 is the all-wheel-drive platform for the Lexus RZ 450e. If only Lexus had opted for a higher output of 308 horsepower (230 kW) in the RZ, it would have been a much-needed boost. The 150kW output of the front motor, compared to the 80kW output of the rear motor, suggests a front-wheel bias when it comes to driving characteristics, which is interesting.
This car is going to be a blast to drive thanks to the 435Nm of torque. According to Lexus, the 71.4kWh battery pack is capable of delivering 362 kilometres (225 miles) of range. However, it is only if you opt for 18-inch wheels, which are standard on higher-spec models. Based on Toyota prices and some historical price differences, we can’t see the entry-level RZ 450e costing less than $50,000 when it goes on sale.
While there, Lexus unveiled a stunning video detailing the company’s ambitious plans to electrify its lineup. When it comes to electric cars, Lexus will expectedly show off another model. It is based on the classic LFA as soon as this summer.
