Lenovo website showcases 30th Anniversary Edition ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Five years ago, Lenovo celebrated the 25th anniversary of its ThinkPad brand with the ThinkPad 25, a special edition ThinkPad with a classic IBM-style keyboard. Five years on, Lenovo is launching another commemorative ThinkPad, and it should be noted that this claimed new 30th-anniversary edition of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon G10 doesn’t come with a retro IBM keyboard as the last one did.

Celebrating milestones is nothing new for the long-running ThinkPad brand. 15 years ago, the ThinkPad Reserve Edition, a special leather-wrapped version of the smaller ThinkPad X61s, was marketed in limited numbers to celebrate the 15 years of ThinkPad.

For its 20th anniversary, the then newly released X1 Carbon Gen 1 also received a special modification, but the release area was limited to China and Japan. Five years later, the ThinkPad 25 hit the shelves, a model based on the ThinkPad T470, and most significantly, the ThinkPad 25 was the first ThinkPad to feature the classic IBM-style 7-row keyboard since 2011.

Naturally, Lenovo is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Seeing as the first ThinkPad came out on October 5, 1992, now is the time to do so. Although no real one has appeared on the market yet, Lenovo has leaked their own product on their official website. The Lenovo USA website lists the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 30th Anniversary Edition.

The ThinkPad 30 is a commemorative model based on the latest generation of the X1 Carbon G10, and unlike the ThinkPad 25, it doesn’t bring back the classic keyboard again. Instead, Lenovo has simply chosen the top-end X1 Carbon version – including a 4K OLED screen not currently available on any other X1 Carbon model – and equipped it with a colored version of the ThinkPad logo. the ThinkPad 30th Anniversary Edition also includes a set of colored RGB TrackPoint caps.

To own this limited edition laptop, buyers will have to pay a hefty price, with Lenovo’s online shop pricing it at $4,170. It is estimated to ship in early November.
