Recently, the new aluminium material “Silk Aluminum” 5L52 researched by Lenovo Group formally passed the national standard audit and promulgation, and was codified into the national standard GB/T 3190, which is the first Chinese original aluminium alloy sheet and strip in the 3C field of the new national standard grade. According to the introduction, the “Silk Aluminum” material is used for notebook products with beautiful colours, silk-like light, and a delicate surface with a unique high-end texture.

Before the birth of the “Silk Aluminum” material, most of the aluminium and magnesium alloy plate grades in the standard GB / T 3190 are based on the material numbers of the former Soviet Union, the United States and Japan, which have been used for decades.
Lenovo officials say that since 2020, Lenovo’s consumer notebook R&D team has quantified the “perceptual perception” of value and quality by scientific means and concluded that the plates used in the industry at the time did not meet the user’s needs for beauty and quality of computers. In the three years of research and development, Lenovo and many core partners in the industry chain together to complete the standardization and digitization of the whole process, overcome a technical problem, make tens of thousands of samples, and finally create a new material “Silk Aluminum” 5L52 with the initial “L” in Lenovo LENOVO.
In the process of making “Silk Aluminum” 5L52, the iron content is strictly controlled, the annealing and tempering temperature range is clearly defined, and the most reasonable grain size control is carried out in the face of changes in grain growth, displacement and dislocation during the rolling process so that the interface between each grain is the most uniform and the dislocation produced is the smallest. The process of anodic oxidation also precisely controls every component that produces acid corrosion, including temperature, time, as well as sandblasting particles, speed, area, and angle, and completed several key process technology indicators to attack and finalize.
