In the play-in tournament, the eight teams will be divided into two groups and compete in a series of best-of-three double-elimination matches. After each group of winners and losers has a champion team, the winner of one group will compete with the winner of the loser of the other group in the best-of-five finals. The winners of these two finals will advance to the group stage along with 14 other teams.
Riot stated that there will no longer be a group stage in the future! Instead, there will be a 5-round Swiss format where each team will play teams with the same win-loss record until it reaches 3 wins or 3 losses. All key matches in which a team may be promoted or eliminated are best-of-three games, while the rest of the games are based on a single win or loss.
In the first round, each team will be randomly paired with opponents from different divisions for a single-game victory or defeat match. This round will produce 8 teams with 1 win and 0 losses and 8 teams with 0 wins and 1 loss. The second round will feature eight single-game playoffs – four games between the eight teams with a 1-0 record, and four games between the eight teams with a 0-1 record.
After the second round of the Swiss Round, there will be 4 undefeated teams with 2 wins and 0 losses, 4 unbeaten teams with 0 wins and 2 losses, 8 teams with wins and losses in each of the first two games, and finally achieved 1 win and 1 Negative team.
In the third round, four teams with 2 wins and 0 losses will play a best-of-three match, with the winner advancing to the knockout rounds and the loser continuing to participate in the fourth round. The four teams with 0 wins and 2 losses will also play a best-of-three match, with the loser eliminated from the global finals and the winner continuing to participate in the fourth round.
There are 12 teams remaining in the fourth round, six of which are 2-1 and six of which are 1-2. 6 teams with 2 wins and 1 loss will play a best-of-three match, with 3 winners advancing to the knockout rounds. The other six teams with 1 win and 2 losses will also compete in three best-of-three games, with the loser eliminated from the global finals.
By the fifth round, there were 6 teams left, all with 2 wins and 2 losses. These 6 teams will compete in the final three thrilling best-of-three games. The three winners will advance to the knockout rounds, while the loser will end their journey to the global finals.

Given that the qualifying situation in this format is constantly changing dynamically, each team has more chances to win. No more teams will fall into the so-called “Group of Death,” leaving viewers feeling like their journey to the World Championship is over before it even begins.
After the Swiss round format, 8 teams will enter the knockout stage. This stage will continue to use a best-of-five single-elimination elimination system to compete in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals until the global finals champion is determined!
