Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen 5 is a new Linux laptop with a 15.6-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel IPS LCD display, a refresh rate of 240Hz, equipped with 24-core 32-thread Intel Core i9-13900HX chip, optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070 graphics cards.
The Kubuntu Focus team has equipped the laptop with Kubuntu software, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, and the new Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen 5 laptop is available now starting at $1895 (currently about $13,341).
The entry-level price comes with at least 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory, 500GB of NVMe storage, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 discrete GPU in addition to the display and processor mentioned above.
Customers can also pay extra for up to 64GB of memory and 4TB of storage, or they can upgrade themselves: the system has two SODIMM slots and two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe Gen 4 SSDs.
One of the most expensive upgrades is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU: choosing this option will add $365 to the price of the laptop (currently about $2570).
The laptop measures 358 mm x 240 mm x 24 mm (14.1″ x 9.5″ x 1″), weighs 2.4 kg, has an aluminium chassis, and comes with an 80Wh battery and 280W power supply.
The laptop is a high performance, but battery life is not ideal: up to 4 hours on “moderate use” with Intel UHD integrated graphics and up to 2.5 hours with a discrete GPU, with even less runtime expected for resource-intensive tasks.

The laptop comes with an Intel AX211 wireless network card with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support, and other features include a backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad, a precision touchpad with a glass cover, stereo 2W speakers and a microphone array.
Kubuntu Focus M2 Gen 5 was released with Kubuntu 22.04 LTS, combining Ubuntu 22.04 LTS base and KDE Plasma 5.24 LTS desktop environment.
