Kia has floated a plan to build a new factory for the large PBV in wage talks with unionized workers as a measure to make future business more competitive, sources said.
It is understood that Kia is preparing to set up a factory at its production base in Hwaseong, 80 kilometers (50 miles) southwest of Seoul, with the goal of mass production of a large electric PBV code-named LW starting in 2028.
Kia broke ground on its first PBV factory in South Korea in April, with an investment of 1 trillion won. The factory plans to produce 150,000 mid-sized models code-named SW starting in the second half of 2025.
