Just Four Days After Launch, Meta’s Threads Surpass 100 Million Users

July 10, 2011 – According to Quiver Quantitative’s Threads Tracker, Meta’s Twitter competitor Threads has attracted more than 100 million users in just four days since its launch.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly updated Threads’ user data, which shows that the app had 10 million users within seven hours of launching, then more than 30 million the next morning, and then doubled again 24 hours later.

Threads currently lack some basic features, such as the inability to search for topic tags and the inability to post from the web site. Most disconcertingly, Threads does not have the ability to display posts in chronological order, instead recommending content from brands, netizens, and celebrities based on algorithms, making it difficult for users to keep up with what their friends and family are up to.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri says Threads plans to introduce a timeline feature, but the app’s goal isn’t to replace Twitter but to avoid sensitive topics like politics and hard news. He argues that while these topics are important, they’re not worth the censorship, negative impact, or integrity risk that comes with them for a platform. He believes that there are enough other communities, such as sports, music, fashion, beauty, and entertainment, to create an active platform without having to dabble in politics or hard news.
