JPR: GPU shipments down 25.1% year-over-year in Q3 this year, biggest drop since 2009

According to Videocardz, Jon Peddie Research’s latest report shows that total GPU shipments (including all platforms and all types of GPUs) reached 75.5 million in the third quarter of 2022, down 25.1% year-over-year, with desktop platform shipments down 15.43% and notebook platforms down 30%. This is the largest decline since 2009.

In terms of market share, AMD’s overall market share declined -8.5% from the previous quarter, Intel’s market share increased by 10.3% from the previous quarter, and Nvidia’s market share declined by 1.87% from the previous quarter.

JPR President Jon Peddie said, “The third quarter is typically the high point of the year for GPU and PC suppliers in terms of shipments, and despite the downward guidance given by suppliers in the second quarter, the results were well below their expectations.”

The NVIDIA RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 will be available in October and November, respectively, and the AMD RX 7900 series graphics cards will be available in December. With AMD and NVIDIA more new graphics card models on the market, the graphics card market may usher in growth.
