According to the Nikkei Shimbun report, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to provide a total of 30.6 billion yen in funding to provide financial support for emerging technologies needed for electric aircraft.

The Japanese government’s decision is aimed at supporting the development of electric airplane components and reducing CO2 emissions, according to the report. The Japanese government will allocate 17.3 billion yen for the development of hydrogen fuel cell systems for aircraft and 13.3 billion yen for the development of energy-saving engine control systems.
Japan’s Ministry of Trade is expected to present the policy at a working group of the ministry’s council.
Right now, Airbus plans to bring the world’s first hydrogen-powered commercial airplane to market by 2035. Other companies are also researching the use of clean-burning hydrogen fuel cell airplanes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the aviation industry.
