Japan and the United States to discuss the development of 2nm process plans for mass production as soon as 2025

At present, there are not many companies in the world that can do the 2nm process, mainly TSMC, Intel and Samsung, Japanese companies have an advantage in equipment and materials competitiveness, but the advanced process is its weakness, and now Japan wants to join forces with the United States to develop a 2nm process, not dependent on TSMC, the fastest mass production in 2025. Japan and the United States have been cooperating with the news of the 2nm process for some time, but on July 29 Japan and the United States economic field have a meeting of senior officials, and 2nm process cooperation should be the focus.

It is reported that in the 2nm process research and development cooperation, Japan will set up a next-generation semiconductor manufacturing technology research and development center (tentative name) within this year, and the U.S. National Semiconductor Technology Center NSTC cooperation, the use of the latter’s equipment and talent to develop 2nm process, involving the chip involves, manufacturing equipment/materials and production lines and other 3 areas.

This research and development is not just an academic collaboration but will recruit companies to participate, and once the technology is ready for mass production, it will be transferred to companies in Japan and abroad, with mass production in 2025 at the earliest.
