An Israeli-made electric car designed to allow commuters to make short trips through crowded streets has achieved its first driverless flight, a milestone that the developer says will help bring it to market in the next two years, Reuters reported.

The driverless car, developed by Israeli startup AIR, can carry two people, an operator and a passenger, for up to 100 miles (about 160.93 kilometers) on a single charge. AIR and many of its competitors around the world believe that this type of travel will eventually become commonplace.
This is an important milestone,” said the company’s CEO and co-founder, Rani Prout, “and the fact that we have transitioned to forward flight today brings us one step closer to our dream of mass production of the AIR ONE.
