iPhone 15 Ultra to support 8K video and bring longer battery life

The iPhone 14 series just came out last week (except for the 14 Plus which doesn’t hit stores until next month), is it too early to start rumours of an iPhone 15? No, in fact, these rumours have been going on for a while now and LeaksApplePro has just posted some new predictions. All iPhone 15 models are expected to ditch Lightning in favour of USB-C, which is not surprising as USB-C will become mandatory in the EU within a few months of the 15 series being launched.

With the renaming of the ‘Pro Max’ model to ‘Ultra’, there could be some changes to the line-up. Analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman have already made the same observation. This makes sense, as it would be more in line with Apple’s M1 and Watch naming schemes. The interesting thing about the iPhone 15 Ultra is that it will have some exclusive hardware.

8K video recording is one possibility, although it’s possible that the iPhone 15 Pro will support it as well. Guo also said that the Ultra will exclusively have a periscopic telephoto lens (6x or 5x). In addition, the Ultra’s battery life will be improved, with a further 3-4 hours of usage time.

The iPhone 15 Ultra is expected to be priced higher than the 14 Pro Max, possibly starting at $1200 (up from $1100 previously), but this is still to be confirmed.

As for the rest of the range, there will be some uniformity, with all four models expected to feature the Lingering Island design. However, the two pairs of models will still use different tiers of chips, with the Pro and Ultra versions moving to the new Apple A17, while the regular iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are likely to be equipped with the current A16.

There is some speculation that the FaceID hardware could be placed underneath the display, leaving only the camera punch, but it will take a few months of development before it is clear whether this technology is viable, or it will have to wait another year.

It’s too early to say whether the standard and Plus models will have a high refresh rate display and Always On mode.
