We have been seeing rumours of the iPhone 14 Pro series using a pill and punch hole display. These rumours and leaks have come from some very reliable sources. As we draw closer to the iPhone 14 series launch, we are now seeing confirmation as to the selfie camera cutout this series will use.
A new leak has shown the dummy unit of this device (Pro series) and it comes with a pill and punch hole cutout. This is an improvement from the notch that has been a constant feature on iPhones for three generations. This new selfie cutout shows that in total, the iPhone 14 Pro series will have three front sensors.

Not all three sensors will be for selfie photography, only one (the FaceTime camera) will take pictures. The remaining two sensors will be a face ID system, which will house an IR illuminator and an IR camera. This is a new development in the smartphone industry’s front camera setup.
We have seen a lot of smartphone manufacturing companies play around with different setups for their selfie cameras. Since the inception of the near full-screen display has seen pop-up cameras, water drop cutouts, centre, and edge punch hole setups. Even more wild is Huawei with its constant dual-edge front camera setup.
Apple will be taking a big leap into the near full-screen display industry, and these dummies show that they won’t go with the trend. The iPhone 14 Pro series will introduce this pill and punch hole cutout to the iPhone community. The vanilla models will be left out, as they will both come with a notch like that on the iPhone 12.
Future models of the iPhone after the 13 series are to adopt this pill and punch hole selfie camera cutout. Apple might as well linger on this trend, as it did with the notch after introducing it on the iPhone X series.
