iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to feature faster memory standards

Apple is reportedly gearing up to announce the next-generation iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max later this September, and as that preparation proceeds, the technology giant’s memory supplier aims to reap higher revenues from shipments of higher-performance levels of memory modules. Apple will reportedly use LPDDR5 memory chips in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

A paid report published by DigiTimes talks about the latest developments from Apple’s memory suppliers, which include Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix. Additional information behind the paywall published in the report states that the “Pro” model arriving later this year will come with 6GB of LPDDR5 memory, which is a generation up from the current generation iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max which both have 6GB of LPDDR4X memory.

iPhone 14: 6GB (LPDDR4X)

iPhone 14 Max: 6GB (LPDDR4X)

iPhone 14 Pro: 6GB (LPDDR5)

iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6GB (LPDDR5)

“According to industry sources, the world’s top three memory suppliers Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron Technology are expected to see their memory shipments for mobile devices get a significant boost from the upcoming memory spec upgrade for the iPhone series.”

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get faster memory, but the latter two lower-positioned models, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, will use the slower LPDDR4X memory. As Apple continues to add more features to iOS, more memory will be needed to provide this optimal software experience while also keeping multiple apps running in the background.

Earlier rumors suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would come with 8GB of RAM, but it appears that if Apple adopts this decision, it will be forced to raise pricing due to the high cost of the components. Raising the price could be detrimental to shipments of next-generation iPhones, as it would be selling these phones at a time when consumers are already facing financial hardship due to the recession.

In addition, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will exclusively feature Apple’s next-generation A16 Bionic chip, while the less expensive versions will continue to use the A15 Bionic chip. Perhaps next year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with 8GB of RAM.
