iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro camera teardown shows a huge sensor difference

After many generations of consistently using a 12MP sensor, Apple has finally upgraded the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with 48MP and a larger size for obvious reasons. This difference can be seen in the latest teardown comparison, showing just how small the iPhone 13 Pro’s camera is when placed alongside its direct successor..

Getting inside the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max is a delicate process, so imagine how Twitter user lipilipsi felt when disassembling the camera module, which uses a ribbon cable to connect to the logic board and could break without warning if you’re not careful. In addition to disassembly, the video on Twitter shows the person desoldering the metal housing of the 48-megapixel main camera with a soldering iron, just to show the viewer what the main sensor looks like.

By watching the video, one would think that the person doing the teardown has done it many times, as anyone doing the teardown for the first time would have a hard time getting to the camera of the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. After finally removing the sensor, it was compared to the iPhone 13 Pro’s camera and the size difference is huge. The larger surface area will allow more light to pass through and capture more detail.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max cameras have a larger sensor area, which should also help when shooting low-light photos. The people comparing the size difference between the two devices didn’t provide any metrics, but from that perspective, we would assume that the 48-megapixel camera is about 60 percent larger than the sensor present in last year’s model. This difference also means that Apple will have little choice but to include a larger camera bump, and we’ll likely see the same change when the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come out next year.
