iOS 16.1 adds battery percentage to iPhone 13 mini, 12 mini, XR, and 11 status bars

Apple updated the battery icon for iPhones with Face ID in iOS 16 to show a specific battery percentage, not just a visual representation of battery levels. At launch, this feature was not supported on the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone XR, or iPhone 11 models.

But according to multiple user reports from Twitter, these iPhones now support the feature after the beta iOS 16.1 upgrade.

In iOS 15, battery percentage was not present on iPhones with Face ID because of the lack of space on either side of the bangs that house the TrueDepth camera hardware, but Apple’s updated iOS 16 design overlays specific battery levels onto the battery icon to give a better understanding of battery status at a glance.

With this update, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone XR and iPhone 11 users can see their battery percentage in the status bar, which is now officially enabled on iPhone XR and later models, and devices without Face ID bangs can always display battery percentage as well.
