Intel has started sampling Meteor Lake-S desktop CPUs and 5th-generation Emerald Rapids Xeon server chips, according to @Fan_of_Toasters.
A document dated April 21 shows that Intel is making Xeon Emerald Rapids R-0 step-up versions available to customers for system testing and debugging. The samples will be fused to PQS and graded to ES2 standard. This means the chip is on track for launch later this year.
Later, another tipster @YuuKi_AnS shared two images of Intel’s Emerald Rapids-SP CPU, also an ES2 sample. The Emerald Rapids chip is quite different from the Sapphire Rapids chip, judging by the capacitor layout on the back.
According to available information, Intel’s 5th generation Emerald Rapids family of CPUs will launch in Q4 2023 with up to 64 cores and 128 threads, the flagship will have a dual-core layout (the Sapphire Rapids family tops out at 4 cores), and will have a large amount of L3 cache (rumours say up to 320 MB), and will continue to use the existing LGA 4677 slot.
In addition to this, Intel is said to be sampling spec numbers to OEMs, with the first ES1 processors based on the A1 stepper. According to previous rumours, Meteor Lake-S includes various SKUs for the desktop LGA 1851 platform (Meteor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh are both Gen 14), but in very limited numbers::
