Intel’s 13th generation Core revealed to have cut PCIe 5.0 SSD support

Intel’s 12th generation Core released last year not only debuted DDR5 memory, but also debuted PCIe 5.0 support, avenging AMD Ryzen’s debut PCIe 4.0, however, the 12th generation Core’s PCIe 5.0 does not support PCIe 5.0 SSD hard drives, originally the 13th generation Core said it was to make up for the regret, but the results also fell through, support is still PCIe 4.0 The support is still PCIe 4.0.

Some users broke the 13 generation Core Raptor Lake and Z790 motherboard specifications, the motherboard provides five M.2 slots, however, whether the CPU directly connected or Z790 chipset does not support PCIe 5.0, M.2 hard drive up to support PCIe 4.0 x4, with the current 12 generation Core is the same, no PCIe 5.0.

Considering the situation of the 12th-generation Core, in fact, the 13th-generation Core said that it is not appropriate to cut off PCIe 5.0. It seems that Intel has followed the previous design and has no plans to support PCIe 5.0 SSD hard drives. The reason may be the same as PCIe 5.0 this year. A few products are related and have little practical significance.

The problem is that AMD’s Ryzen 7000 already fully supports PCIe 5.0. Whether it is the high-end X670E/X670 or the B650E/B650 chipset of mainstream platforms, it already supports PCIe 5.0 graphics cards and SSDs, but the B650 series cannot choose graphics cards and hard drives at the same time. Can only choose one.

In addition, AMD has joined forces with 12 manufacturers to promote the PCIe 5.0 ecosystem this time, including Phison, ASUS, Micron, Intellida, GALAXY, GIGABYTE, MSI, Seagate, PNY and other brands. Related products will be launched in November.

Since the 13th-generation Core does not have PCIe 5.0 hard drives, players in the high-end PCIe 5.0 market this year may only have the option of the Ryzen platform.
