Intel Wi-Fi 7 network cards are in short supply and factory lead times extended to 12 weeks

Intel Core 14 generation desktop processor will soon be launched, the motherboard manufacturers of the new Z790 motherboards have also begun to market, most of which are equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 7 wireless network card.

While the Wi-Fi 7 standard has yet to be finalized, Intel’s BE200 Wi-Fi 7 controllers are now shipping in large quantities and are currently in short supply.

@ghost_motley has found that lead times for the Intel BE200 have been extended from six to twelve weeks at major chip distributor Mouser, which may explain why some vendors have opted to adopt Qualcomm and MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 7 solutions.

Mouser data shows that Intel BE200 Wi-Fi 7 network card factory delivery time is 12 weeks, the price of each module is 18.53 euros (currently about RMB 143), but if you buy 500 or more can be reduced to 15.42 euros (currently about 119 yuan).

Intel has now announced two M.2-2230 NICs based on the Wi-Fi 7 draft — BE200 and BE202, both compatible with 2×2 TX/RX streams and supporting the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. The BE200 has a maximum speed of 5 Gbit/s, which is lower than the standard transmission rate.

While the exact difference between the BE200 and BE202 is unclear, Intel confirmed that the BE200 has been pre-certified for Wi-Fi 7.

As far as known products are concerned, the upcoming Gigabyte Aorus Z790 Master X motherboard (PCB revision 1.2) will utilize the BE200, while some versions will use the Qualcomm QCNCM865 (PCB revision 1.0) and MediaTek MT7927, RZ738 (PCB revision 1.1).

Intel sees Wi-Fi 7 as a great fit for high-bandwidth activities, especially in the area of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets that utilize Intel’s WiGig technology.

However, the IEEE doesn’t expect to confirm the final IEEE 802.11be specification until 2025, but companies like Intel are optimistic about the potential of Wi-Fi 7. Apparently, that optimism is reflected in this pre-release batch of Wi-Fi 7 controllers and adapters.

From the “kuroberu” exposure of a number of manufacturers Wi-Fi 7 program, the mainstream manufacturers Z790 motherboard using Qualcomm NCM865, MediaTek MT7927 / RZ738 and Intel BE200 / BE202 Wi-Fi 7 program.

Among them, MSI’s new Z790 motherboards all use Qualcomm solutions, ASUS models use Intel solutions, and GIGABYTE’s Z790 series has all three solutions.

Parameters, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Intel’s Wi-Fi 7 program speed can reach a maximum of 5.8Gbps. Intel B202 wireless network card due to only support to 160MHz band, the maximum speed of 2.4Gbps.

The official website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on June 1 officially released a public solicitation of opinions on the “National Radio Office on the use of IEEE 802.11be technical standards for wireless LAN equipment to add new model approval technical requirements and test methods of the notice (draft)”, the Wi-Fi 7 standard is expected to land in a short time, when a large wave of Wi-Fi 7 products will be shopped on the market. Wi-Fi 7 products will be available on the market.
