Intel showcases new 80Gbps Thunderbolt interface

Not long ago the USB-IF officially announced the latest USB4 2.0 standard, the rate was increased to a maximum of 80Gbps, twice the USB4, but also twice the Thunderbolt 4 interface, but the cable needs to be upgraded to active. Now Intel is not to be outdone, also showed a new 80Gbps Thunderbolt interface. According to the TH website, Intel showed the new Thunderbolt standard capability at an event in Israel, with a rate of 80Gbps, achieved through 2 Thunderbolt channels, each at 40Gbps, a speed that is 2 times faster than the current Thunderbolt 4.

(From: Tom’s Hardware)

But Intel is now showing that is all, the detailed technical description to be shared in the future, it looks like Intel is to respond to the release of the USB4 2.0 standard and carefully prepared, that is, to show off the technology.

This Thunderbolt interface is also not named, according to the usual may be called Thunderbolt 5, but the TH website is a very lackluster proposal called Thunderbolt 4 2.0, I hope Intel does not really learn USB official so bullshit naming.

In addition, the new Thunderbolt standard 80Gbps data line is estimated to be active, the passive cable should not reach such high speeds, the future popularity is estimated to be very difficult, at this stage can be fully popularized 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 will be very good.
