In September this year, the European Union fined Intel 376 million euros for a market monopoly case between 2002 and 2007, accusing it of “obstructing competitors from entering the market with naked restrictive behavior.”
Intel stated in its third quarter report that it plans to appeal the European Commission’s decision to impose an antitrust fine of 376 million euros.

It is learned that the EU antitrust agency said in 2009 that Intel tried to suppress its competitor AMD by providing rebates to computer manufacturers Dell, HP, NEC and Lenovo to encourage the above-mentioned companies to purchase chips from Intel.
In early 2022, Intel won a lawsuit against the EU antitrust regulator for a $1.2 billion fine, and the EU General Court in Luxembourg dismissed most of the regulator’s 2009 ruling.
The court said at the time that the analysis conducted by EU antitrust regulators was incomplete and failed to establish the necessary legal standards to judge the competitive impact of rebates. Notably, the court said it could not determine damages related to Intel’s conduct and therefore eliminated the portion related to fines entirely.
