Intel confirms Meteor Lake-S will use LGA 1851 slot, support up to LPDDR5X-7500 memory

ComputerBase found some information about the next-generation Meteor Lake-S desktop processor in Intel’s official website code.

According to reports, the 14th-generation Core CPU will be based on the latest LGA 1851 socket, and has verified the support of the new generation of processors for LPDDR5X-7500 memory.

It is worth mentioning that the size of the new LGA 1851 socket is exactly the same as that of the LGA-1700, except that the IHS of the new socket protrudes higher than before, which ensures that Intel’s new multi-tile technology has enough room to play, Another reason may be to avoid previous problems, such as the warping and overheating issues that have occurred with Intel’s Alder Lake.

Combined with the previously announced PPT roadmap, Intel Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake desktop processors will be compatible with the LGA 1851 socket. In addition, based on the information listed, we can conclude that the 14th generation Core processors will support up to LPDDR5X-7500 memory, while the high-end Arrow Lake CPU is expected to support LPDDR5X-8400 specifications and ECC DDR5 UDIMM and SO-DIMM models. Memory.

From the currently known information, the specifications of Intel’s 14th generation Meteor Lake-S series desktop CPUs have been weakened compared to the previous generation, at least reducing the number of P cores, but thanks to new processes, new architectures and brand new chiplets Technology and performance must have increased significantly.

The Meteor Lake-S lineup given in the leaked chart includes five different models, with the top-of-the-line processor combining 6 P-cores and 16 E-cores to provide 22 cores and 28 threads.

Additionally, the P-Cores on the Meteor Lake CPUs are based on the new Redwood Cove architecture, while the E-Cores will feature the Crestmont design, both of which will bring new improvements and upgrades.

It should be noted that the 14th generation Meteor Lake CPU is limited to i7, and the higher i9 seems to be only available in the Arrow Lake series, and due to the new foundry strategy, Meteor Lake will integrate Intel 4 (CPU) + TSMC N5 (tGPU) + TSMC’s N6 (SoC) process is expected to be optimized in terms of cost.

The currently exposed Meteor Lake-S list includes:

22 (6P + 16E) / 4 Xe cores / 125W TDP

22 (6P + 16E) / 4 Xe cores / 65W TDP

22 (6P + 16E) / 4 Xe cores / 35W TDP

14 (6P + 8E) / 4 Xe cores / 65W TDP

14 (6P + 8E) / 4 Xe cores / 35W TDP
