According to Bloomberg News, the Indian government announced the postponement of import licensing measures for laptops and tablets, which will take effect on November 1 this year.
Vendors can continue to import laptops, tablets, PCs and server equipment without applying for additional licenses until October 31.
Research firm Counterpoint estimates that India’s laptop and PC market is worth $8 billion a year, two-thirds of which are imported.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a financial incentive plan of 170 billion rupees in May this year to attract laptop, tablet computers and other hardware manufacturers to invest in local production.
