South Korean giants in the automotive and electrical appliance fields are going to “get together” in the field of Internet of Vehicles. Hyundai Kia announced a cooperation agreement with Samsung. According to the agreement, the in-vehicle infotainment systems built into Hyundai and Kia vehicles can be used to remotely control smart home appliances, and Samsung’s smart speakers, smart TVs and other devices can be used to remotely control vehicle functions.
According to the official press release, while driving, users can activate “Home Mode” in advance to turn on the bound air conditioner or air purifier, start the sweeping robot, and light up the lights at home; before going out, users can activate “Away Mode” to turn off Remove extra lights at home and adjust the air conditioner in the car to a suitable temperature in advance.
At the same time, car owners can also use the home energy management service integrated with Samsung’s IoT platform “SmartThings” to monitor the energy usage of vehicles and homes.
The two parties announced that the above services will also be expanded to overseas markets in the future. To this end, Hyundai and Kia will develop a “stable” vehicle-machine system and subsequently provide these “mutual control” functions for existing vehicles (Note: including Hyundai IONIQ series and Kia EV series) through OTA upgrades.
