Huawei: 5.5G user experience improved by 10 times Support the popularity of the meta-universe

On September 1, during the 2022 World Congress on Artificial Intelligence, the GSMA and Deloitte held the Metaverse Summit.

At the forum, Mr. Gao Quanzhong, General Manager of Huawei’s 5.5G wireless network product line, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on “5.5G to accelerate the development of the metaverse”.

Gao Quanzhong said that the metaverse needs a ubiquitous network with large bandwidth and low latency, and 5G can support its rapid development. 5.5G can enhance network capacity and support the spread of metaverse services on a large scale.

From the statistics of third-party organizations, the global shipments of AR/VR headset devices have increased five times in the past five years, and exceeded the 10 million mark last year. It is expected that by 2025, there will be a 10-fold increase in global shipments, breaking 100 million units.

Gao Quanzhong believes that the explosion of metaverse content will put higher demands on the network. Real-time interaction between the virtual world and the real world requires a rate of 500 Mbps and 20 millisecond latency, and current 5G networks can already meet this demand.

In 2020 Huawei proposes 5.5G, a continuous enhancement of 5G capabilities. On top of 5G’s high speed, low latency, and large connectivity, new capabilities such as uplink ultra-broadband, broadband real-time interaction, and convergent sensing have been added, which can meet the needs of the metaverse for symmetric transmission bandwidth and real-time interaction, as well as transferring all types of changes perceived in the real world to the virtual world through the network.

He added: The current 5G network can already support XR service development, and for scale commercialization, 5.5G comprehensively improves network capabilities, such as 10Gbps downlink and 1Gbps uplink, and improves user experience by 10 times. Not only that, 5.5G can also deliver haptic perception information in real time on top of visual and auditory, so the transmission delay and stability are also greatly enhanced.
