Honor for the first time on the stage of IFA 2022 in Berlin. At the same time, Honor CEO Zhao Ming also presented new products for the global market for the first time, and announced that Honor will “embrace the connected future with a new dual flagship strategy and MagicOS”.
The three new products will be available in Europe in the coming weeks, in addition to the Honor 70 series already launched in China, including the debut of the Honor Tablet 8 and MagicBook 14 (2022), as well as the new MagicOS 7.0.
According to the introduction, MagicOS 7.0 is also based on Android, although its name is different from the previous Magic UI.
MagicOS 7.0 provides a seamless user experience for different platforms and devices, and devices using different operating systems can connect to MagicOS devices at the system level, according to Honor.
In addition to the user interface changes, MagicOS 7.0 also enables control of all three platforms – laptop, smartphone and tablet – using a single set of keyboard and mouse. With this new feature, users can seamlessly transfer files between devices, for example, using a laptop keyboard to enter text on a smartphone or tablet.
MagicOS 7.0 will be released to the public in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Honor.
In addition to software, Honor has invested a lot in developing its own software and apps, especially the updated Honor Health App.
Honor also said it is expanding its partnership with Microsoft to make the Windows “Your Phone” Phone Link available for international versions of Honor devices as well.
The feature allows users to connect some Honor smartphones to a Windows PC without installing additional apps to take better advantage of cross-device features, including viewing phone notifications, making and receiving calls on the PC, and opening phone apps on Windows.
The Honor Magic 4 Pro phone is reportedly one of the first smartphones to support Phone Link, and the new Honor 70 will also support Phone Link with the update.
Also at IFA, Honor talked about its new “Honor Spatial Audio Surround Sound” solution, which enables headphones to produce cinema-quality 3D surround effects.
Pride’s surround sound solution is said to be designed to provide surround sound and 3D sound effects through the headset, using the headset’s accelerometer and gyroscope to track the user’s head movement and remap the sound field accordingly in movies, music and games. The algorithm can be used to simulate changes in sound as it travels from the source to the listener’s ear. These effects include sound source localization above, below, behind and in front of the listener.
According to Pride, its surround sound solution is the first to support sound distance adjustment. This offers the possibility to dynamically adjust the distance of the virtual sound source to 10-15 cm for a more personalized listening experience.
As part of its IFA keynote, Honor also announced that it has joined several IoT alliances, including Matter and Ola, and is bringing a new developer services platform that provides direct support and services for developers, offering software developers the opportunity to submit apps through the platform, app marketplace and game center.
As a final note, during its IFA keynote, Honor announced a program called “Gateway to the Future,” a new HONOR Talents program that aims to enrich cultural heritage through technology.
In collaboration with ARLOOPA, Honor will reportedly challenge artists Yunuene and Timo Helgert to redesign the iconic Wasserschloss building in Hamburg’s Warehouse City and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
