Honor 70 series launch with Sony IMX800; specifications, and price

The Honor 70 series just launched, it features three devices all using the new Sony IMX800. The Pro models use flagship MediaTek processors.

The long-awaited Honor 70 series are finally here, this line-up features a total of three devices. Among the three devices are two Pro models, which both make use of MediaTek Dimensity flagship processors. The base model uses a Snapdragon 778G+ processor, all three devices feature slightly curved screen edges. The design language across the Honor 70 series stays similar, the only notable difference will be in the camera cutout of the base model. Let’s now take a look at the specifications of all three models.

Honor 70 Pro+ specifications and features

Honor 70 Pro and Pro+

The 70 Pro+ comes with the highest specifications among the three devices from Honor’s new launch. The device comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor. It also has a triple rear camera setup that borrows a few design points from the Honor 60 series cutout. Here are the specifications of the Honor 70 Pro+:

  • Screen: 6.78-inch OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and PWM dimming.
  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 9000. 
  • Storage: 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB storage variants.

  • Battery: 4500mAh battery with 100W fast charge.
  • Operating System: Magic UI OS 6.1, running on Android 12 without Google Play Services.
  • Biometrics: Under display fingerprint sensor.

The main camera on this device is the new Sony IMX800, which promises vivid image capturing. The video capability of this smartphone receives a boost from Honor’s software implementations. With the specifications of this device, we can comfortably say that it will offer a flagship experience.

The major difference between the 70 Pro+ model and the Pro model is the process and added storage options. On the 70 Pro, the processor powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 8000 processor. This is a midrange flagship processor, although not being as capable as the Dimensity 9000 processor it still offers a premium experience. The storage options on this device are, 8GB/12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB storage.

Being the base model, there are changes to most specifications and features of the device. A processor for Snapdragon, which isn’t as capable as those on the 70 Pro models. The battery got a little increase in capacity and an obvious reduction in charging speed. Below are the full specifications of the Honor 70:

These are specifications of a typical budget device, it’ll be entering a very competitive market. It might face some setbacks due to its lack of core Google services. But, Honor has seen improvement in sales in the Chinese region by outselling the existing competition. This device will find a perfect spot in the Chinese and Asian markets.

Honor 70 series price and availability

The pricing of these devices varies with the storage unit a buyer wishes to purchase. Currently, they are all available for pre-order on the Honor official store, the sale will commence on June 10. All devices in this series fall under the sub-5000 yuan price segment.

The 70 Pro+ will start at 4599 yuan (~$690) for the 12GB storage option and 4299 yuan (~$645) for the 8GB storage option. The 70 Pro will retail at 4399 yuan (~$660) for the 12GB/512GB option and 3999 yuan (~$600) for the 12GB/256GB option. The least storage being the 8GB/256GB option will retail at 3699 yuan (~$555).

The base model will have more affordable prices than the Pro models, it’ll retail for 3,399 yuan (~$510). The least storage variant will sell for 2,699 yuan (~$405) on the Honor official store.

The colours of this device are quite impressive and eye-catching. They come in a total of four colour options namely, Bright Black, Mo Yuqing, Mist Sand, and Streamer Crystal. The Mist Sand and Streamer Crystal colour options take a similar design pattern to the Huawei P50 Pocket. These are great devices with amazing specifications that might be ignored by those who rely solely on core Google Play Services.
