FAW Group officials learned that the first domestic V-type 12-cylinder direct injection supercharged (V12TD) engine independently designed by FAW has recently been successfully test-produced in the test production department of the vehicle development institute of the General Research and Development Institute.

The V12TD engine is based on the new upgrade of the only domestic Hongqi V12 platform, with a maximum power of 560kW and a maximum torque of 1100Nm, and will be equipped with a hybrid system to match the vehicle application in the future, tailor-made for Hongqi’s top cars.
According to the introduction, the V12TD project team is oriented to the power demand of the top cars of Hongqi and concentrates on the key core technologies such as the design of ultra-high-power combustion system, two-row consistency control of V-engine, development of dual ECU autonomous electronic control system and trial production of high-precision 3C parts, successfully completing the technical breakthrough of key systems such as combustion and gas exchange and achieving international leading performance indexes. At the same time, the company has broken the technical barriers of foreign manufacturing, overcome the manufacturing problems in the industry, and realized the self-production of all high-precision 3C parts.

FAW said that with the leapfrog development of the Red Flag brand, the V12TD engine will continue to play an important role in the future, and also hopes that the engine team will contribute more to the hybrid technology route such as PHEV and the group’s new energy strategy.
