According to a notice issued by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), Honda is recalling 303,770 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V models due to front seat belt pretensioners. The device is missing a part.
The notice shows that some of the recalled vehicles’ front seat belt pretensioners (which tighten the seat belts in place during a collision) may be missing the rivets that secure the quick connectors and cable plates. Defective pretensioners can increase the risk of injury in a collision. Note: The pretensioner is a seat belt component that tightens it into place in the event of an accident to prevent the seat occupant from flying forward.
The NHSTA blames the problem on an error in the assembly process, and Honda will inspect and replace seat belt pretensioner assemblies free of charge as needed.
As of Nov. 16, Honda has received seven warranty claims but no reported injuries or fatalities related to the faulty pretensioners. From January 8, 2024, notification letters will be sent by mail to registered owners of affected vehicles.
Earlier this month, Honda recalled nearly 250,000 vehicles in the U.S. because bearings could fail, causing engines to stall and increasing the risk of crashes. Honda said in the filing that they received 1,450 warranty claims due to the issue, but no injuries were reported.
