At the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, Honda confirmed that the Prelude sports car will return and showed an electric concept car.
Last year, the Japanese auto giant confirmed plans for two new electric sports cars: a smaller and cheaper model similar to the Prelude or S2000, and a flagship model that would succeed the latest mid-mounted hybrid NSX.
Now, Honda has confirmed that the Prelude name will be making a comeback. The Honda Prelude, the classic two-door sports car launched in the 1980s, will be resurrected this time as an electric version.
It is noticed that the exterior lines of the concept car are very smooth, without particularly exaggerated air intakes or aerodynamic details. The front face will adopt a new design style, with the central LED light strip showing an electrified style, and a mesh air intake grille and spoiler below showing a sporty feel.
From the side, the new car still adopts a two-door design and is equipped with hidden door handles. The exterior rearview mirrors, roof and wheel rims are all blackened, and the front wheels are equipped with blue calipers to show a sense of performance. The rear of the car is also equipped with a fixed spoiler, and underneath is a through-type taillight design.
Honda has yet to confirm a release date for the production version of the Prelude, but previously confirmed it would be launched before 2030. Japanese media have previously said the car is scheduled to be launched in 2028.
