Honda plans to launch an all-solid-state battery demonstration production line next year

Honda today held a press conference on corporate reform measures such as electrification.

According to reports, in addition to continuing to promote the development and evolution of liquid lithium-ion batteries, Honda will also develop and launch a new generation of batteries such as semi-solid and all-solid batteries. Honda plans to start a demonstration production line of all-solid-state batteries in 2024, and the batteries produced will be used in models launched in the second half of the 2020s.

In terms of battery planning, Honda plans to purchase the “Ultium” platform from General Motors in the North American market. At the same time, it will also establish a production joint venture with LG Energy Solutions; in China, Honda will strengthen cooperation with CATL; Honda sources batteries from Envision AESC for light commercial pure electric vehicles.

Honda has proposed new corporate reform measures for electrification. Among them, in terms of electric vehicles, it is preparing to launch “e:NS2” and “e:NP2” electric vehicles in the Chinese market in early 2024. In the same year, it will also launch this month at the Shanghai Auto Show The mass-produced version of the concept car “e:N SUV Series” unveiled to the public.

It is learned from Honda officials that Honda plans to increase the global sales of pure electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles to 100% by 2040; plans to increase the annual production of pure electric vehicles to more than 2 million units by 2030.

In China, Honda plans to launch 10 pure electric vehicles by 2027. By 2035, the sales of pure electric vehicles will account for 100% ahead of other regions. Of course, this is only part of Honda’s reform measures. Honda has also announced plans for five key areas in the future, improving earnings, coping with semiconductor shortages, and battery procurement.
