HMD Global has been launching Nokia-branded smartphones for the past six years. The Finnish company announced in September this year that it was expanding its product portfolio and would launch phones with its own HMD branding.
According to the latest report from ET, Ravi Kunwar, HMD Global’s vice president for India and Asia Pacific, said that the new HMD Global brand will be launched in the first half of 2024, and India is its main target market.
The company intends to build a comprehensive product ecosystem by launching various HMD-branded products such as smartphones, tablets, feature phones and IoT devices.
Pricing for these HMD-branded products will vary across markets and they will be designed to cater to specific consumer segments, differentiating them from the Nokia product line.
The company intends to manufacture all HMD-branded devices in India and export them to other regions. HMD Global has apparently tied up with Foxconn, Dixon and Lava, among others, to manufacture smartphones in India. Additionally, they are exporting feature phones to African markets.
As previously reported, HMD Global co-founder, chairman and CEO Jean-Francois Baril revealed on his LinkedIn page: “Users can expect to see a new product portfolio of HMD-branded mobile devices, as well as Nokia devices, exciting Excited to work with new partners.”
