HMD announced the Fusion phone at MWC 2024. The project aims to become an innovative platform that allows third parties to add various “smart outfit” modular hardware to support a wide range of applications. Now HMD has released Fusion development documentation.

The document shows that the overall body of HMD Fusion is 76mm wide, 164mm long, and 8.9mm thick. It is equipped with 6 pogo pin metal contacts on the back, of which the first 5 support USB 2.0 and the latter provides ADC analog-to-digital conversion.
According to previous reports, Samsung also equipped the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro rugged phone with pogo contacts, but it was only used as an alternative charging interface.
HMD confirms that both Fusion phones and modular hardware can be used as hosts over a USB connection and recommends using standard APIs for interaction.
On the other hand, HMD says that the ADC analog-to-digital conversion contacts provide a total of 18 selectable values that can be monitored from the Android application layer, enabling simple use cases such as changing wallpapers.
In terms of power supply, HMD Fusion and modular hardware can provide power in both directions: in power supply mode, Fusion can provide up to 5W of power to the outside; while in charging mode, the “smart outfit” can provide 15W charging for phones, which means that modular Power bank case.
