According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is considering ways to push up the price of its high-end iPhones.
Rather than simply renaming the Pro Max to Ultra, Apple is discussing adding a higher-end model than the Pro Max to the iPhone 16 lineup as soon as 2024 or later, according to the news release.
Gurman said it’s unclear how the new high-end model would differ from the Pro and Pro Max, but he speculated that the device could feature additional camera improvements, a faster chip, and a larger display. He also speculated that the device could have an interface-less design, meaning no Lightning or USB-C charging ports.
Apple has been steadily increasing the price of its high-end versions of the iPhone over the past few years, starting with the iPhone X in 2017 and continuing with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which now costs tens of thousands of dollars.
In addition, Gurman doesn’t believe the new model will have a folding screen as a point of difference, and Apple is not believed to be developing a folding screen phone at this time.
