Gurman: Apple Mac Pro with M2 Ultra chip is testing macOS 13.3

Apple is testing a new Apple Silicon Mac Pro running macOS 13.3, according to a tweet shared today by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

Given the March 2022 release of macOS 12.3 and the April 2021 release of macOS 11.3, it’s likely that macOS 13.3 will also be released in the spring. Apple will likely introduce a new Mac Pro at this spring’s event, followed shortly after by macOS 13.3 for supported computers. The new Mac Pro is expected to come with Apple’s new M2 Ultra chip, but the higher-end “M2 Extreme” chip has reportedly been dropped.

Last October, Gurman said that the long-awaited MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch models with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips would also be bundled with macOS 13.3, suggesting that these laptops could also be released this spring.

Gurman previously claimed that a new Mac mini was testing the M2 and M2 Pro chips, but he hasn’t talked about what’s new with the Mac mini lately. The device is expected to be released alongside the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro models. In the meantime, Apple will continue to sell Intel-based devices in the Mac Pro and Mac mini configurations.

Apple hasn’t released any new Macs since the release of the M2 chip-equipped MacBook Air last July, creating a longer window of opportunity.
