GTA V sales hit 165 million mark globally
Grand Theft Auto V

Nine years after its initial release, Grand Theft Auto V continues to roar and reach new heights. According to Take-Two, the developer behind GTA V, the open-world action game has sold over 165 million copies as of March 31, 2022. The number is up by 5 million copies, compared to the sales figure disclosed by Take-Two in February 2022.

The overall sales figure for the entire GTA series has crossed the 375 million mark, according to Take-Two. This means GTA V is making up 44% of the overall sales. The recent addition to the series was the new version of GTA V that was released back in March for the next generation consoles; PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There was another GTA game released in February this year on the Nintendo Switch, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. However, Take-Two didn’t release the sales figures specifically for these two new GTA games.

In the past quarter, there was another GTA release, GTA Online. This was a new standalone edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and there was also a subscription program called GTA +.

However, GTA V isn’t the only Take-Two game to reach a high sales number. Red Dead Redemption II has sold over 44 million copies. The last sales figure for the games was revealed back in February which said the game has sold over 43 million copies. The Red Dead Redemption series has sold over 67 million copies in total and that means the sales number for the first Red Dead Redemption game is around 23 million.

Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II have made the company a lot of money but if we count the microtransaction sales within the online modes, Take-Tow is set to make even more. According to the reports, Take-Two has made $930 million in revenue in the fourth quarter which is 11% more than last year’s.

Lastly, Take-Two hasn’t even mentioned its upcoming game, GTA 6. The development of the game is well underway and total silence from the company can only mean, the wait will be longer for the GTA fans.
