Graphics card HPCE gold finger power supply capacity exceeds 600W

Asus will launch the RTX 4070 “wireless” graphics card this fall, equipped with a gold finger for power supply. According to foreign media Tom’s Hardware, the official document of the HPCE power connection standard shows that the interface provides more than 600W of power, which is higher than the 12VHPWR interface on Nvidia RTX 40 series graphics cards.

According to reports, the HPCE power connector is very similar to the PCI Express connector, with a total of four sets of pins, of which 16pin are dedicated to the power supply and the other 12pin are dedicated to signal communication between the motherboard and graphics card. The connector itself is roughly the size of a PCIe x1 connector. The official documentation recommends not installing a locking mechanism on the HPCE connector itself, as the x16 slot’s built-in locking is already sufficient to hold the graphics card in place. The new connector is capable of delivering more than 600W of power to the graphics card, but the document doesn’t specify an upper limit.

Foreign media stated that this new connector is not actually an original design. It is a modified version of the HPCE standard for high-current gold finger connectors widely used in the server industry.

ASUS Tianxuan series of B760 interface rear motherboards using this interface will be launched in September this year. Asus also showed off a higher-end TUF Z790-BTF interface rear motherboard at Gamescom in Germany, which is also equipped with this interface.
