GPT-4 chatbot in trouble, OpenAI threatens to sue its developer

GPT-4 is a language model released by OpenAI for ChatGPT, a chatbot that can generate various types of text, such as poems, stories, code, and more, based on user input. However, to use GPT-4, users must pay a monthly fee of $20 (currently about RMB 138).

One developer, however, has found a way to use GPT-4 for free. He created a project called GPT4free, which he shared with users via Github. The project can use the APIs of paid sites like Quora and You.com to indirectly call GPT-4’s services. Users can simply enter a question on GPT4free’s website and get the answer from the paid website.

This practice caused OpenAI to send a letter to the developer demanding that he remove the Github project within five days or legal action would be taken, arguing that the developer had violated their copyright and business interests.

However, the developer did not think he was at fault. He said that he did not directly connect to the GPT-4 API, but only used some websites that had been paid for. He believes that OpenAI should have gone to those sites to fix the problem, not to him. He also said that he only provided some scripts and that it was up to other people to use them and he was not responsible for them.

The developer also said that even if he removed the GitHub project, it would be pointless because his code is already widely distributed on the Internet. He plans to move his chatbot to another domain and rename it “gf4”. As of this writing, GPT4free’s Github project still exists.
