Google announced several new devices yesterday, including the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, as well as its first smartwatch (which is now available for pre-order). It also showed us an update on the Pixel tablet in development and promised it would launch next year. Users are also expecting to hear some news from Google about its first-ever foldable phone, the so-called “Pixel Fold”.
While no one was expecting the company to unveil a foldable device at last night’s “Made by Google” event, users still questioned the device’s existence, as Google didn’t share any updates. However, prominent display analyst and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consulting (DSCC) Ross Young reiterated that Google’s foldable device is still in development and will be released in 2023.
Thanks to Young’s industry sources, we now have an idea of how it might debut. With panel shipments starting in January next year, the company is reportedly eyeing the release of its long-awaited foldable phone in the first quarter of 2023.
The Pixel phone has reportedly faced multiple delays. Initially, it was supposed to come out in 2021, but that apparently didn’t happen, and its overall performance is expected to be on par with devices like the Galaxy Z Fold3. The next target is for a launch in the first quarter of 2023. If all of this is true, the so-called Pixel Fold could be the first foldable phone from the Google brand in 2023.
Young previously claimed that the so-called Pixel Fold would feature a “new chipset” and a 120 Hz display. The external display is expected to be smaller than Fold 3. In the coming months, we may get more details about the device’s specifications and other key details.
