Google’s Bay View and Charleston East campuses place a lot of emphasis on green energy. This campus does not only make use of pure solar energy but also helps to conserve nature around it. This building project is among the largest buildings in the world to pursue LEED-NC v4 Platinum

The Bay View and Charleston East campuses boast of housing the largest geothermal pipe system in North America. In addition to that, the project uses clean energy, hence reducing waste and improving the health of those within it. Let’s now take a look at the energy and sustainability efforts this project passed through before becoming a reality.

Google’s Bay View and Charleston East campus use of clean energy

Starting with the type of energy to use, Google’s new 1.1 million square feet project plans to use energy from the sun. At its size, making use of other forms of energy would have been disastrous to the environment. Google went into a partnership with SunStyle to develop what they call a “Dragonscale” solar panel. This panel traps more energy from the sun than most other solar panels, hence contributing to 40% of the Bay View and Charleston East campus’s yearly energy consumption.

We can say that it is encouraging to see more companies try to adopt the use of green power. This move is pioneered by China and its solar tech firms. In effect making the country the world’s largest solar energy producer. Although there is a wide gap between China’s green energy solutions and other green energy solutions available in the world, there is hope for improvement. The new campuses from Google prove true to this fact.

Energy sustainability driving for a better environment

Another impressive area of consideration in Google’s new campuses is its sustainability. Google has taken a lot of steps in the line of sustainability starting from its conception until today. To attain a more sustainable flow of energy, the Bay View and Charleston East campus uses not only wind and solar energy but also geothermal energy. This form of energy comes from heat within the earth.

Changing the approach to energy generation is important to the environment. It can help reduce global warming and climate changes that plague the world today. These little steps from Google can be the start of a new dawn in energy solutions across the world.
