Google’s Pixel 8/Pro series of flagship phones were recently released, bringing a number of hardware and software feature improvements. Users have discovered that the Pixel 8 series comes with an eSIM transfer tool and the ability to convert a physical SIM card to an eSIM card.
Google announced back in February 2023 that Android would be able to transfer eSIM profiles from older Android phones to newer Android phones. Now, this feature is finally here. As tipster Mishaal Rahman mentioned, users will be able to transfer their T-Mobile eSIM from the Pixel 7 Pro to the Pixel 8 Pro during the device setup process.
In addition, Mishaal also mentioned that users will be able to convert physical SIM cards to eSIM cards and shared screenshots of the process of conversion.
However, it is found that eSIM card migration and physical SIM to eSIM conversion functions are not effective among all Android devices and all operators. Mishaal said the test is currently only available on T-Mobile in Europe and Deutsche Telekom (which owns a majority stake in T-Mobile in the U.S.) when switching from an old Pixel smartphone to the new one.
