Last year’s Google Pixel 6a was trolled for its lack of a high-brush screen, but the latest details suggest that the upcoming Pixel 7a will feature a 90Hz screen, support for wireless charging, and a new set of dual rear camera hardware.
Developer @Kuba Wojciechowski says the 90Hz display is a next-generation 1080p panel developed by Samsung Display, and that his previous prediction of a Pixel 7 Ultra (codenamed “Lynx”) is actually a reference to the Pixel 7a.
The Google Pixel 7a is said to feature two new image sensors: an IMX787 wide-angle lens and an IMX712 ultra wide-angle lens, which is a significant upgrade over the existing IMX363. The camera is codenamed “Pixel 22 Mid-range” compared to the “Pixel 22 Premium” on the Pixel 7 / Pro.
Wojciechowski believes that this could make the Pixel 7a one of the best mid-range smartphones of 2023.
Previously it was announced that the Pixel 7a would support wireless charging, but only at 5W, which has now been reconfirmed.
On top of that, he says the Pixel 7a could be the first mid-range model to use Google’s Tensor chip and will also feature Qualcomm’s WCN6740 chip (Wi-Fi / Bluetooth), which Google has previously relied on Broadcom solutions for on devices like the Pixel 6 series and Pixel 7.
