Google Phone App to Introduce Number Lookup Feature

Google is adding a new feature called “Number Lookup” to its phone app.

This feature was first discovered by user AssembleDebug. In the beta version of the Google Phone app, when the user clicks on an unfamiliar number in the call history, a “Find Number” button will appear. After clicking this button, the system will automatically enter the number into the Google search bar, allowing users to quickly retrieve relevant information.

Google Phone is the default phone app for users of Pixel series phones. However, users of other brands of Android phones can also download and use the app. The new “Find Number” button will appear alongside existing options such as “Block” and “Call Logs.”

In today’s era of rampant phone fraud, many scammers use virtual numbers to disguise themselves as local numbers, so the launch of this new feature seems a little overdue. In the past, in order to identify these unfamiliar numbers, users had to go through a series of tedious operations such as copying and pasting them into search engines. The addition of the “Lookup Number” function will greatly simplify this process and allow users to quickly identify the source of unfamiliar calls.

It is noticed that in addition to “find numbers”, AssembleDebug also discovered some other functions under development. For example, Google is planning to add smart snippet feature “Gemini” to the Gmail app for Android. Judging from the currently leaked screenshots, the “Gemini” summary button will be located under the title of the email, and you can click it to view the summary content. However, this function is not yet perfect and does not really implement the summary function. Also, a new “Gemini” option has appeared in Gmail’s More Options menu.

Currently, Android users who want to use the “Gemini” feature to summarize emails can only do so through the separate “Gemini” app (provided they have a Google Workspace account). It is foreseeable that integrating the “Gemini” function directly into the Gmail application will be more convenient and practical, which is also consistent with the current operation of the web version of Gmail.
