YouTube and the National Football League (NFL) officially announced today that NFL Sunday Ticket will land on YouTube Primetime Channels and YouTube TV in 2023.
According to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter previously revealed that YouTube will acquire the rights to broadcast the NFL Sunday Ticket at an average annual price of approximately US$2 billion (approximately 13.98 billion RMB).
Currently, DirecTV owns Sunday Ticket home and commercial broadcasting rights and pays the NFL an average of $1.5 billion (approximately 10.485 billion RMB) per season. YouTube has secured the home rights for seven years, worth about $2 billion per season, the people said.
YouTube is one of Google’s pillar businesses, which generated more than $28 billion (about 187.6 billion RMB) in advertising revenue last year. In the third quarter of this year, YouTube’s advertising revenue was US$7.071 billion (approximately RMB 49.992 billion).
