Google Germany has said that it will not be rolling out face unlock to older Pixel phones. This means that the Pixel 6 Pro may never get the features of the Pixel 7 series.
In addition to the usual fingerprint, PIN, password, or patterned screen lock methods, the Pixel 7 series also features face unlock. While the option appears in the Android 13 Beta, it is not yet available on devices with the Tensor chip.
According to the Caschys blog, Google Germany has confirmed that face unlock will not be rolled out to older Pixel phones.
However, it’s not clear what Google means. It’s possible that the company is not planning to roll out face unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro in the near future, or it could do so at a later date. But either way, this won’t affect Pixel 6 Pro users too much.
The Google Pixel 7 Series Face Unlock is a first-level biometric feature, unlike Apple’s Face ID feature, which uses the TrueDepth camera system to create facial depth data. Google Pixel 7 Series Face Recognition can only unlock the screen and cannot be used as a security verification method for payments or app logins.
